Ronny sketched out the history of Chapala, from the indigenous times through the colonization and wars of independence to the present. He showed how a good part of this history is encapsulated by murals inside a small lighthouse at the end of a pier.

He pointed out local flora and fauna, including parrots flying freely in trees and the many birds on the lake.

In Ajijic, we had a wonderful lunch at a lakeside restaurant and a walk around town and on the boardwalk.

Ronny drew attention to old Spanish churches and pointed out unusual architectural details. He also pointed out many interesting murals, accompanied by details about the artists.

Associating pictures and murals with sometimes dry historical facts is a great way to make history come alive. I ended the day with a much better understanding of local history and culture.
